What Do I Love About Sugar Grove?

I love Sugar Grove’s dual identity as a small, rural community and a growing suburb. Being an outdoor enthusiast, I appreciate the great access we have to nature and outdoor activities and have enjoyed helping to grow the Village’s relationship with the environment. As a busy mother, I have relied on the wonderful programs that our library and park district have to offer.

What Qualifies Me to Be A Trustee?

I have been a resident of Sugar Grove since 2003 and have watched it change over the last 20 years. My experience as a small business owner, licensed architect, Plan Commissioner, and Village Trustee has given me a unique skill set that helps me relate to all angles of the development process.  My experiences allow me to work for the best solutions for our community with a resident’s perspective, a city planner’s perspective, and a business owner’s perspective. Promoting the health, safety, and smart growth of our community is my top priority.

What is my approach?

Listen. Research. Discuss. I believe these three steps are critical to making responsible decisions. I am always listening and asking for feedback and ideas from Village residents. Then I research topics under discussion so that I can be as fully informed as possible. Finally, I have open discussion with others to share what I have heard and what I have learned so together we can arrive at the best solution.

What Are Your Priorities As Trustee?

I place safety, security, and smart growth at the top of my priority list. Born and raised in the Fox Valley, I have dedicated my entire adult life to serving the community. I believe in common sense politics, and pride myself on making sound, educated, and informed votes on all issues.

Safety and Security

An effective partnership between law enforcement and the community is essential. I am committed to working with the Sugar Grove Police Department continue to meet/improve the way we communicate and educate our residents, promote best practices for safer neighborhoods, and provide proactive solutions.

A Place For Families

As a parent of small children, I would like to see Sugar Grove concentrate development efforts towards creating a family-friendly community that offers a wide selection of amenities for our residents. I would love to see us bring in new businesses that offer year-round entertainment and recreational activities, restaurants, shopping and other retail opportunities.

Smart Growth

I believe in the concept of ‘smart growth’ – a development that is economically viable, creates a strong community, and preserves our natural environment. I also believe we must ensure this development is sustainable, responsible, and fair. Development financial strategies must benefit our local taxing bodies, including law enforcement, fire protection, library, and our local school system.

About Me:

  • Current Village Trustee

  • Sugar Grove resident for seven years

  • Married to my wife, Lisa, for 7 years.

  • We have twin daughters turning two years old in March.

  • Law enforcement officer for over 20 years

What Qualifies Me to Run For Office?

I have dedicated much of my life to Sugar Grove – both as a long-time resident and working as a Public Works Director for the Village. I see fantastic opportunities here and I know that I can contribute my 40+ years of Municipal Government experience and perspective to be an effective Village Trustee.

I have a strong working knowledge of multiple departments within the Village – including streets, water, utilities, and maintenance – extremely  important Village services provided to all of our residents. I have a long history of building positive resident relationships in the community, experience with project management, overseeing budgets, and delivering on community member expectations.

Why Am I Running For Office?

I am passionate about smart development for our community, including creating spaces for our residents and patrons to live, work, dine, and enjoy. For the past 18 months, I have worked on the Town Center Committee. I believe that together, we have created a fantastic framework for the Town Center concept. Now, I would like to continue to work as a Village Trustee to bring that vision to life.

I also want to look at how we can create a more livable community for all our ageing  residents. In the past 10 years, we have added two age-restricted senior apartment homes and one assisted living facility in Sugar Grove. However, we need to advocate for senior resident resources beyond just housing – like transportation, shopping options, recreation and leisure options, health/wellness, etc. We need to ensure resident needs are being met locally – at all ages.

About Me:

  • Married to my wonderful wife, Rita, for 32 years.

  • We have three children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

  • Live in the Meadowridge Villas subdivision.

  • Recently retired, I worked as the Village of Sugar Grove Public Works Director for
    nearly 20 years.

  • Over 40 years of Municipal Government experience.

  • Member of the Lions Club.
